Positive Value Chain: Water
The Challenge
At all points along our value chain, water is a critical resource to our business, as well as for the health and safety of our employees and communities. Water irrigates the crops we use, is a key ingredient in many of our products and is essential to ensuring we meet the highest product safety and quality standards in our manufacturing facilities. Both PepsiCo and the communities in which we operate rely on clean sustainable water supplies and share a common interest in water protection and conservation.
Our Goals
We’re helping build a circular and inclusive value chain.
We aim to become Net Water Positive by 2030, reducing absolute water use and replenishing back into the local watershed more than 100% of the water used at company-owned and third-party sites in high-water-risk areas. We plan to avoid using more than 11 billion liters of water a year, a 50% reduction in the amount we use at these sites compared to a 2015 baseline. We aim to achieve best-in-class water-use efficiency and by 2025, aim to adopt the Alliance for Water Stewardship Standard at all of our high water-risk facilities, a framework focused on sustainable water management.
